Mallika, Mohini:Jahaz Mahal, Mandu

We drove to Indore from Bombay and stayed there for two days. From Indore we traveled to Mandu which was once a thriving and magnificent city but is now only a small village with many massive old ruins. These sketches are of the Jahaz Mahal in Mandu. “Jahaz Mahal” means ship palace. The Jahaz Mahal was a huge pleasure palace built next to a lake. We sketched on the roof of the main building. The lake was about 100ft below us to the left. To the right was the rest of the palace complex.
